The Secret to Getting Back to Being Truly Happy

How often do you take ownership of your current state of mind? When bad things continue to fall into your lap as quickly as dirty clothes do, you know something has to give!

Halting the work of washing your clothes is NOT what has to give. If you want to feel better about yourself and get going on making new plans for a new beginning in your life, start with two important release techniques.

First, let it all out with a big cry. Releasing the emotions that have built up inside of you is healthy and necessary if you are going to be able to turn a more positive corner.

We often hold our tears in for too long, causing a build-up of anger and resentment. Carrying hurt inside of you is the worst thing you can do. It can cause depression and physical deterioration, neither of which you want to be subjected.

The second thing to do:  Take five minutes to stop what you’re doing, sit down, close your eyes, take yourself to your HAPPY place, (mine is Kauai), and start taking long deep breaths, slowing breathing in and slowly breathing out.

Getting the flow of oxygen moving back in your body helps to calm you and it delivers more clarity, opening your mind to consider possibilities for your future.

Try listening to your entire body, especially when you’re tired. What is it trying to say to you that you might not be hearing?

What areas of your life require more simplicity? Are you hiding behind something or someone because you’re afraid to show your vulnerability?

One vital element is to examine and acknowledge where you are still angry, resentful or hurt.

A fellow coach shared some words of wisdom with me.

She told me that part of the process of truly letting go is “ownership” of our current state. That must happen in order to then ask God to help relieve us of our burden…as much as our own will to let go of it. Then, after these steps it is much easier for us to be able to drink in the positive that he provides.
